Dear Single Moms...
It's not quite Monday but I still wanted to put this post up hoping to encourage somebody. I'm a single mom and have been for almost 10 years. The struggles, uncertainties and challenges which come with being a single mom can sometimes be unbearable but in the words of my grandmother, "God never puts more on you than you can bear!" I've talked about balance before but sometimes between working, being a mom, being a woman and still trying to chase and catch my dreams, I too get lost in the sauce. The great thing about life though is you don't have to figure it all out at one time! So here is my ode to all the single mommies out there doing the darn thing!
Dear Single Moms,
You are greatly appreciated even if no one ever tells you so! You're so strong and powerful that God decided you can do it all by yourself! What a woman! Your quick wit and ability to handle every problem; from complicated schoolwork to fixing unofficial boo-boo's, makes you the model for what a independent woman really is. I know sometimes you get frustrated because doing it alone gets overwhelming but the reward you receive when your child(ren) says "I love you" or "Mommy, you're the best," makes it all worthwhile. It's okay if you sometimes lose your balance and fall! It's okay if you run out of time and baths at night turn into quick wash-ups in the morning! It's okay if one whole week has gone by and not one pot has hit the stove! It's okay if you haven't figured it all out and sometimes questions if you are even doing it right! IT'S OKAY! You're going to fall plenty of times before it's all said and done! You are going to make plenty of mistakes and regret a few decisions but no one's perfect and no one mom's way is the best way!
Find what works for you and be confident knowing you're doing the best you can! No, your kids may not eat everything organic but they have a hot meal every night before they go to bed! No, you may not be able to afford gymnastics for your daughter but you're taking her to the park after work and letting her have her way with the monkey bars so it's all the same! No, you may not be able to pick her up from school everyday because between work and school it just doesn't fit in but you're there to tuck her in every night. You're doing the best you can with what you have so stop beating yourself up and blaming yourself! Celebrate YOU because a lot of moms could not do it by themselves and you're doing it with so much style and grace! You are beautiful! You are awesome and you are appreciated!
From one single mom to another,
